Jockum Nordström
Jockum Nordström is one of Scandinavia’s leading artists, internationally recognised as much for his exhibition work as his children’s books. Principally working in pencil and collage, Nordström has developed a highly individual illustrative style, playful and sometimes melancholy, drawing on influences from folk art, naive art and surrealism, among others. His books for young people include the Sailor and Pekka series, Where Are You Going? and the highly acclaimed Fables and Other Stories, a collaboration with the Tolstoy Estate. He has held several exhibitions across the world and his work is in public collections in New York, Stockholm and Gotheberg. He is the recipient of several awards.
The Fables: In association with the Tolstoy Estate, Jockum Nordström has created brilliant new illustrations in his signature water-colour and collage style for Lev Tolstoy’s fables. The author of such epic novels as War and Peace also wrote for children, and most of the stories in this book are his interpretations of Aesop’s Fables and The Hindu Sagas. 32
